What We Mean By Interactivity

We should appreciate the Web medium for what it CAN do - and one of the chief things it can do is be interactive. By interactive we mean there are aspects to the page which cause the student to think and which require student action to proceed.

"In my experience, when students see a Web page they want to do something. If there is nothing to do, the default action is "print".

J. Dorbolo, 1998

Interactivity is CLIENT-SIDE (Javascript, JAVA, plugins) or SERVER-SIDE (CGI-based) or BOTH. Most interactivity in Web courses is client side. Some is mixed - i.e., a CD linked to a Web Site.
