| Compound
Interest: A Demonstration
Web Course
|
These pages demonstrate several features of fully web-based
classes.
- Content pages. There are four content pages,
Simple Interest, Simple Troubles, Compound Interest, and Real Life Interest,
which lead up to the objectives of understanding what it means
to compound interest and being able to calculate the ending balance of
a deposit left in a bank for one year at a given interest rate
compounded at given regular time intervals.
In addition, there is a content page, In the Limit, which discusses
what happens if interest is compounded "continuously". In order to access that page you must first complete the
Recorded Quiz. This is an example of a conditional (or
adaptive) link.
- Quizzes. There is a practice quiz and a
recorded quiz illustrating questions of various
types. The practice quiz may be retaken as often as you like and draws three
random questions from a data bank of 5 questions. The recorded quiz goes into
your grade (!) and may be taken only once.
-
A Communications Activity. A communications activity is a structured computer-mediated exchange - in this case between you and a partner chosen for you by the computer.
- Student Resources. Links above allow you to see your grades and see your completed work. Some other tools such as an on-line syllabus also exist.
After you have gone through this class, you may take a look at the engine behind this class. The
engine is called QuestWriterTM. Clicking on the "Explore QuestWriterTM" link (the center cell) will bring up a
new index page for deeper exploration of the toolset from the point of view of an instructor.
